John Galliano suspended from Dior

John Galliano has been suspended from Christian Dior pending an investigation into an alleged assault and verbal attack made on a couple in a Paris cafe in the city's Marais district on Thursday night. Galliano was apprehended by the police after it was alleged he made anti-semitic remarks to a couple in the cafe. He was released by the police on Friday morning. It was claimed he had been drink at the time of his arrest.
As a result he has been suspended from Dior until further notice.
"Dior affirms with the utmost conviction its policy of zero tolerance towards any anti-Semitic or racist words or behaviour," Dior chief executive Sidney Toledano said in a statement which we received this afternoon. "Pending the results of the inquiry, Christian Dior has suspended John Galliano from his responsibilities."
However www.sleek-mag.com reports a different story with an eye-witness who claims that the event was not as dramatic as previously claimed and that Dior's creative director may not have been at fault.

With Paris Fashion week fast approaching the Dior show will no doubt be front and centre of the news as we see what happens without its main man !!

Galliano for Kate

So the big question has finally been answered: who will be designing Kate's wedding dress?.....John Galliano.....
I know what you're thinking, thats a little bit racy for a future Queen of England.....
Oh its a sad day when the first Kate we think of is a Middelton rather than a Moss (I blame the media really, brainwashing !)
Our favourite fashionista will be dragging her man down the aisle in a dress by non other than John Galliano. The nuptials will take place July 2nd to front man of The Kills Jamie Hince. Moss and Galliano have had a close relationship throughout her fashion career so it only seems apt that he be more than just a wedding guest.
Here is a video of a young Kate and Galliano.....

Karl Lagerfeld exhibiton, Rome update

I finally managed to find sometime to go and visit the Lagerfeld exhibiton in Chiostro del Bramante and I was not disappointed !
The exhibition began with some editorial photographs by Lagerfeld, it then progressed on to a mixture of celebrity portraits, Roy Lichtenstein inspired art and then campaigns shot for Chanel and Fendi.
As I walked from room to room it was hard to imagine that only one person was the artist/creator of all these works as some seemed completely opposite.

Dark and shadowy photographs were featured of the beautiful city that is Paris along with some blurry photographs/paintings (it was hard to tell).

The top level of the exhibition featured more violent images and a video of an almost naked man writhing on the floor.
One of the best collections, for me, was his collection of photographs of models dressed, or not dressed more like, as mythological characters. One included muse Julianne Moore.
Here are some of the works featured:
Enjoy

The Beautiful People: Marc Jacobs Fall 2011

Ah New York fashion week is upon us and I love checking out style.com for all the gory details.
Fashion's favourite Marc Jacobs unleashed a collection for Fall 2011 with a strict instructions: STRUCTURE,STRUCTURE,STRUCTURE !
It seems to me a little bit more fifties with a definite Edwardian influence which can be seen in the high neck collars, long skirts, laced up boots and ladylike berets strapped on for dear life. Yet splashes of polkadot, latex and rubber and Marylin Manson's "The Beautiful People"playing in the background sexed things up to the point of kinky.
Final thoughts?? Mr Jacobs continues to have us wrapped around his creative little finger. I can't wait to see what he has mixed up for Louis Vuittton !

The eternal city hosts the work of eternal fashion God, Karl Lagerfeld

Mark your calenders fashion hunters as February 15th 2011 marks the opening of an exhibition paying homage to the King of fashion himself, Karl Lagerfeld.
The exhibition will take place at the Chiostro del Bramante in Rome until the 10th of April this year.
The event, which has been organized by Altamoda in collaboration with Fendi, will showcase his work mainly through photography.
The exhibition made its debut in Paris at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie to critical acclaim, not that we would expect any less from Mr Lagerfeld.
The images that will be shown range from some taken in 1950s Paris to the present day and will include advertising campaigns shot by Lagerfeld himself for the fashion houses of Fendi and Chanel.
I can't wait to feast my eyes on this fashion extravaganza ! Who knows, maybe the artist himself will be there himself to explain his creative vision. Now that really would be a FASHION moment !

A modern take on the 1950s

Here are some images from the current project I am working on with my fellow fashionistas in IED. We are doing a project for our fashion history class documenting fashion from the 50s to the 90s through images.
We had the first shoot on Thursday, trying to capture the 1950s. Here are some behind the scene photos. ENJOY !

Architecture you can wear !

Check out Greek born designer Mary Katrantzou's Spring/Summer 2011 collection of digitally printed dresses. Taking inspiration from issues of Architectual Digest and World of Interiors, Katrantzou's creations are not just dresses, but art.
London Fashion week saw models saunter down the runway in dresses with sharp shoulders and in shades of soft pastels. I absolutely loved the skirts that took the form of lampshades finished with ornate braiding and beaded tassels.
The Central St Martins graduate usually sports a uniform of all black and leaves the colour to her work. Her dazzling digital masterpieces have claimed fashionista Anna Dello Russo as a victim. She snapped up one of Katrantzou's numbers backstage, after the show, to wear to Paris fashion week.

Katrantzou's collection is a breath of fresh air from the minimalism obsession that is happening right now. This collection is fun fun fun and a real treat for the eyes !
